Demonstration Garden on Bell Ave

Volunteer schedule: Saturdays, March through October, 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Location: 3841 Bell Ave, 63108

Volunteers help maintain 20 vegetable demonstration beds used to illustrate seasonal growing techniques; care for several large ornamental plantings, including sidewalk street plantings; and assist with special garden improvement projects and seasonal tasks. Volunteers gain vast experience in garden maintenance and best practices working alongside St. Louis Master Gardeners and Gateway Greening staff on the cutting edge of gardening practices.

Prior to beginning service, new Demonstration Garden volunteers must attend a one-time, on-site volunteer orientation. Most volunteer orientations are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 10:00 am, but please check the upcoming events page for updates. Individual volunteers must also commit to a minimum of one shift per month.

Help at a Community Garden

Individuals are needed to support St. Louis communities by becoming active members of nearby community gardens. Gateway Greening supports a network of more than 200 active community gardens, and additional involvement is always needed. Participation may involve an individual year-long commitment or a one-time/big impact group event. To find a garden near you, please check our map of gardens.

Help at a Youth Garden

The Gateway Greening education program supports more than 60 school and youth-focused gardens. The program’s overall goal is to allow youth to learn through hands-on activities, experience healthy food and contribute to a garden that improves their community.

Volunteer opportunities include working with students and teachers in the garden and helping maintain a school garden during the summer months.

Upcoming Volunteer Orientations
