Urban Gardening & Leadership Training

Leadership Series

Community gardening is often more about “community” than “gardening.” In order to ensure long-term success of the garden and strong group dynamics, Gateway Greening has formed a series of leadership development opportunities: an 8-week class series (Growing Gardeners), a one-time workshop on leadership in the garden, and a primer.

Leadership In The Garden Powerpoint

Growing Gardeners

Growing Gardeners is an 8-week intensive “train-the-trainer” urban gardening class series covering horticulture and community development topics. The class is offered as part of the Hub Model free of charge to Gateway Greening supported community garden members. Past topics covered were Building Healthy Soils, Plant Growth, Seed Starting and Propagation and Preserving the Harvest. Instructors for the classes range from extension educators to local farmers to community gardeners.

Participants are asked to attend all classes and be active in the Hub Model. Registration begins in December with classes starting mid to late January and ending in March.

Leadership Workshop

As a part of the Community Garden Program orientation, GGI wants to ensure continued project success by offering a one-day ‘Leadership in the Garden’ workshop. Staff and well-established garden leaders will share lessons learned and best practices to strengthen programs and neighborhoods enriching the experience of gardening.
