13th Street Community Garden

About The Garden

The 13th Street Community Garden was established in 2008 as a place to grow fresh, local, healthy produce for the North City Farmers' Market, and to provide gardening space for community gardeners. In 2009 and 2010, we grew over 1000 pounds, per year, of healthy produce to sell at below market rate prices to our community. We hope to exceed that amount in the coming years and also increase the number of people gardening with us and in our neighborhood.

In 2010, the Garden added a successful "Chicken adoption program," providing housing for 16 chickens, who in turn bless neighbors with lots of eggs.

Also in 2010, the 13th Street Community Garden was awarded Hub Garden status by Gateway Greening. This will enable the garden to assist more community gardens and home gardeners with tool-lending, seed-starting, and seed/seedling distribution, as well as many education opportunities.

Drop by the garden to see all the green stuff growing. On our menu this year are strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, grapes, lettuce, greens, onions, garlic, sugar snap peas, radishes, and so much more!
