What is a Hub Garden?

In 2009, the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) awarded Gateway Greening a major grant for the establishment of 6 hub gardens that would serve clusters of community and school gardens in their geographic region. The Hubs provide educational opportunities and technical assistance for gardeners nearby—similar to Bell Garden.

Two area community gardens were named Hub Gardens in 2010. Gateway Greening commends Wayside Community Garden and 13th Street Community Garden for their commitment to improving food access.

Reasons to Visit a Hub Garden

  • Looking for advice or area resources on gardening
  • Attend a workshop
  • Tool loaning
  • Seed starting and propagation resources
  • Simply wanting to meet other community gardeners!

Through this grant, GGI bolsters infrastructure at selected St. Louis area gardens to provide educational opportunities and technical assistance for gardeners nearby (similar to Bell Community and Demonstration Garden). Hub Gardens will provide services such as vegetable gardening workshops, food preparation demonstrations, seedling propagation or tool lending.

For more information, contact James Anderson, Community Garden Coordinator, at 588-9600 ext. 30.
