GIVE THE GIFT OF GROWING FOOD

With our new membership program, we wish for you to engage with Gateway Greening.  While your financial support will allow Gateway Greening to use the power of growing food to continue our work of changing lives and communities, we want to better connect you to the impact of our programs.  Whether it is volunteering, attending an event, or proudly wearing a Gateway Greening t-shirt, we want you to become a part of our mission to educate and empower people to strengthen their communities through gardening and urban agriculture.  Please become a Gateway Greening Member today and help us provide access to local food!

How is Gateway Greening Addressing Food Deserts in St. Louis?

photo-33More than 120,000 individuals in St. Louis are living in a food desert, meaning they have a harder time accessing healthy food because of distance, availability, affordability and/or lack of transportation. Gateway Greening works with communities to build food-producing community gardens and helps them sustain and expand their gardens. An average community garden produces over 500 pounds of produce annually. This means that Gateway Greening community gardens are providing St. Louis food deserts with more than 17,000 pounds of healthy, local, and affordable food every year. In order to create a stronger, healthier St. Louis, proper nutrition is essential. Visit our website to see a map of Gateway Greening network gardens.factmc2016
Coming in at 2.5 acres, the Gateway Greening Urban Farm is the largest in a downtown area. Not only does the farm grow food for over 70 families every year, the farm donates food to the homeless, food pantries, and volunteers every week. All together, the farm grows an average of 15,000 pounds of fresh, local and organic produce annually.
