Where we got our start
Bringing a breath of fresh air to St. Louis
You may not know Sue Reed or Kitty Hoblitzelle, but that’s okay. Through their generosity, we here at Gateway Greening have been able to help people like you live more fulfilled and exciting lives. People just like you have made friends, grown food, connected with their city and made a difference.
Now, over three decades and hundreds of gardens later – we’re just getting started.
1983 – Gateway Greening founded
1984 – Gateway Greening received 501c3 status
1991 – We hired our first Executive Director
1994 – We hired our first program employee
2005 – Founded the City Seeds Urban Farm
2011 – We surpassed 200 gardens in St. Louis
2014 – Celebrated our 30th anniversary
Looking for that sense of community, or perhaps you’d simply like to learn more about gardening? Gateway Greening always has its door open to volunteers.
