Started at GGI: Fall of 2011

What I Do at GGI: As the new City Seeds VISTA, I will be working with the Farm Team on a variety of projects related to GGI’s urban farm.  Part of my job will involve practical, hands-on farm work with St. Patrick Center clients, volunteers, and staff, while part of my job will involve behind-the-scenes planning and organization related to the farm.  I will be in charge of volunteer coordination and orientation for City Seeds volunteers, and I will be responsible for coordinating the City Seeds booth at the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market.  I also will have a hand in delivering produce to Food Outreach and other wholesale clients, in addition to gathering information for future Gateway Greening urban agriculture projects and teaching a few classes a season to our St. Patrick Center clients.

Background: A native St. Louisan (I went to Desmet Jesuit for high school), I grew up the oldest of four siblings.  I attended college at Washington University in St. Louis, receiving a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and attended graduate school at Georgia Institute of Technology, earning an M.S. in Music Technology.  My passion for sustainable agriculture developed during grad school, and since then, I spent a season WWOOFing on three organic farms in Quebec, Canada, and I’ve recently returned from an apprenticeship at the Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm in western New Jersey.

Presently:  In addition to growing food, I enjoy cooking, speaking French, yoga, and singing.  I’m excited to learn more about the city and to bike around in it as much as I can.    I’m endlessly curious and am always trying to learn more about the world and how it works.  I enjoy connecting to nature, contemplating the meaning of life, and cultivating deep friendships.
