Started at GGI: 2006
What I do at GGI: In this role, I manage the City Seeds program, staff, St. Patrick Center clients, VISTA members and volunteers. I lead City Seeds program development, communications with partner agencies, grant reporting & evaluation. Coordinating both the daily employment training for the green industry and the therapeutic track takes ample time while keeping clients, staff and volunteers on target with our larger mission. I spend a lot of my time teaching classes on the farm, coaching and directing clients and staff, leading tours & presentations, arranging logistics and headlining infrastructure and program improvements and tracking.
Background: Before this, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Honduras working with sustainable agriculture, health, environmental education, and capacity-building workshops. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Forestry, Art and a Spanish minor from University of Missouri – Columbia. Community development tying social work, the environment and our food system has been my passion. I enjoy working with diverse populations and have become a better person by interacting with each client, volunteer and co-worker at Gateway Greening. I am lucky to have a front row seat at some profound transformations that occur at the farm. Every day is unique and filled with new challenges and adventures. When the everyday surprises and putting out fires become difficult, I arm myself with a smile and a good sense of humor, and things usually turn out ok. :)
Presently: Originally, from St. Louis I returned here following an 8 year hiatus of personal growth & travel. Some of my most rewarding experiences include developing a radio show focusing on women’s issues and amazing music, improving wood burning stoves in Honduras to reduce deforestation and respiratory illnesses in the home, training in Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan karate, and seeing as many new places and cultures as time and resources allow.
